Empyrean Defense is a modern warfare tower defense game where you build, upgrade, and customize defenses to hold back an enemy invasion. Learn abilities and skills, craft advanced ammunition, and gather resources on the battlefield to strengthen and expand your defense.

We're gearing up for an exciting 2026!

  • Official Playtest: The official playtest is LIVE! For anyone interested in testing the game prior to the demo and Early Access, please sign up here. Once your submission is accepted, you will receive an activation key and can head over to the Playtest Page to get started!
  • Public Demo: Our first public demo will be available in March. Come try the game, share feedback, and help shape development.
  • Steam Next Fest: Check out Empyrean Defense at Steam Next Fest June 15-22, 2026.
  • Early Access Release: Empyrean Defense launches into Early Access on July 23, 2026.

Status

v0.10.0 - Teleport, Path Indicators, and Improved Vessel Water Dynamics (March 1, 2026)

Status: 🟢 Live on Steam Playtest

New Features

  • New Ability: Teleport - Displaces a group of enemies, instantly teleporting them back along their advance and disrupting their push.
  • Path Indicators: Added ground and naval path indicators during the setup phase
  • Water Improvements: Updated water shader to include Gerstner swells and CPU wave sampling for vessel rotation

Improvements

  • Updated ability icons for:
    • Firestorm
    • Lightning Storm
  • Added tabbed containers in the Market to make browsing and navigation easier
  • Allow tooltips in menu pages to be hidden when using controller
  • Updated UI Scale setting info text and reordered it within the settings list
  • Updated wave overlay countdown to use mm:ss format

Balance Changes

  • Landmines Ability
    • Cooldown increased from 30s → 80s
  • Set all mission countdown timers to 90 seconds

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed pause menu reliability on Steam Deck when application not focused
  • Fixed main menu flicker when returning from gameplay menu
  • Fixed Nyra popup triggering incorrectly for deployment checklist items that aren't completed after Verdant Anchorage
